About the Commission
The AMS School Accreditation Commission has been overseeing the accreditation process since 1991. The eleven members of the commission each have been a head of or faculty member of an AMS accredited school. This diverse group of dedicated and experienced Montessori professionals represent the diversity of its schools, with representation from different geographic areas, school types and sizes, and credential levels.

The School Accreditation Commission (SAC) encourages and facilitates continuous school improvement through the process of AMS school accreditation, by defining standards that promote and uphold the highest quality implementation of the Montessori approach to include diverse, equitable, inclusive school environments as a guide for implementation within member schools.
Responsibilities of the Commission
We encourage and facilitate continuous school improvement by overseeing the accreditation process and determining quality in accordance with AMS standards. The Commission’s work includes the review and revision of school accreditation standards, policies and procedures, and training for AMS school accreditation onsite visiting teams. The Commission makes school accreditation recommendations to the AMS Board of Directors.

How to Get Involved
If you are interested in becoming a School Accreditation Commissioner, the call for nominations takes place each fall. We ask that all nominees have experience with accreditation at their school as well as experience as a member of an onsite accreditation team.
