FAQs
Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. At the sole discretion of the Director, when applying for the Infant and Toddler or Early Childhood programs, the Institute may accept an application from a candidate who has not yet completed the B.A. or B.S. degree; this candidate must hold a high school diploma/GED. In this event, upon completion of the Institute, the applicant would be eligible to receive an American Montessori Society Associate Infant and Toddler Credential. Once the candidate has earned a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, the American Montessori Society would upgrade the credential to a full credential. In some states, including Maryland, an Associate Credential may not be sufficient for full teaching responsibility; the candidate must check local jurisdictions for particular employment requirements. Note that a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree is required for all programs at the Elementary level.
