About the School

Spruce Tree Montessori School is an independent Montessori school offering authentic Montessori education for children ages 15 months to 12 years old. Spruce Tree provides an inspiring learning environment using proven Montessori techniques and approved Montessori materials. Our programs are guided by experienced Montessori educators holding Montessori teacher certifications from accredited Montessori teacher training institutions. Montessori education nurtures the child’s natural desire to learn. Classrooms are active, but peaceful, engaging yet quiet. Students develop in a self-paced environment where socio-emotional and practical life skills are learned alongside academics. Our mission is to create an experience that we all love. Spruce Tree Montessori School is affiliated with the American Montessori Society (AMS) and has implemented a program in compliance with the AMS School Standards and Accreditation Criteria. Spruce Tree is the only school in Alaska that has reached Level 6 in the AMS Pathways for Continuous Improvement Program. All Lead Teachers hold Montessori credentials from MACTE-accredited Montessori teacher training institutions approved by the AMS or an Alaska state K-8 teaching certificate and all classroom staff have BS/BA degrees or higher. Our Head of School earned the Seton Montessori Institute’s esteemed School Administration credential (Jan 2017) – the first Montessori educator in Alaska to do so! Our curriculum provides sound academic background for the establishment of critical thinking, problem solving and cooperative learning skills where enrichment programming in culture, foreign language, art and music are a part of the regular school day. Our goal is to support the development of each child in all areas – academically, socially, physically, and emotionally in an effort to educate the “whole child.”
